June's Featured Poet is D. Nurkse. Nurkse has been described as "an essential American poet." The poems in his eleven books of poetry (including his newest, A County of Strangers, being released by Alfred A. Knopf on April 12) have won awards that include the Literature Award from the American Academy of Arts and Letters, the Whiting Writers Award, and prizes from the Poetry Foundation, and have been translated into several languages. He was the Brooklyn Poet Laureate and teaches writing at Sarah Lawrence College.
First Saturday Poetry is curated and presented by award-winning poet Vasiliki Katsarou. Vasiliki is a Geraldine R. Dodge Poet and a regular Teaching Artist at the Hunterdon Art Museum, and is also a filmmaker. For many years, she ran the well-loved poetry-reading series at Panoply Books in Lambertville. Her books, including the full-length poetry collection, Memento Tsunami and the contemporary poetry anthology Dark as a Hazel Eye: Coffee & Chocolate Poems, are featured for sale at the Bookshop.
